Evoking memories of the legendary 2.7 and 3.0-litre RS and RSR 'homologation specials' of the 1970s, in 1991 Porsche introduced the Type 964 Carrera RS, which was a lightweight variant like its illustrious forebears. It was based on the 'Carrera Cup' competition car and sold in Europe only, though there was a lower-specification 'RS America' for the United States market. There was also a Touring version that kept most of the road equipment fitted to the standard Carrera.
Originally sold by JCT 600, Newcastle upon Tyne, this Type 964 Carrera 2 has had six previous owners. The last two owners converted the standard Carrera 2 Coupé into the 964 RS Touring-specification replica you see today, complete with Nomex seats and four-point racing harnesses. The Porsche was purchased from Ellis Group Ltd, who carried out the main conversion work to Type 964 RS specification, including the engine, clutch, transmission, and suspension, the latter adjusted for correct ride height. The chassis is described as corrosion-free, having been Waxoyled over the years, while the bodywork and paint are reported to be very good, boasting factory shut lines and only minor stone chips. Our vendor advises us that the car drives as a Type 964 RS should, being delightfully tight and with no known faults. It has covered only some 3,000 miles in the last 13 years, has just been serviced (including a new battery), and comes with a V5C document and fresh MoT.
