Gene Lee stars in Korea

Gene Lee driving for Team Modena SGLC in Korea - put in another terrific display to bag a second and a win to slot into second place in the Super CJ series race series - with only 2 races to go.

The real story of the race weekend however was the frankly appalling driving standards of the Lexus GT1 driver Mr. Hwang Jin Woo - the guy who nearly wrote off the Team Modena SGLC BMW earlier this year by blatantly barging Gene off the track on the straight. This weekend Mr. Hwang Jin Woo - driving under probation from KARA for earlier misdemeanours took out his own team mate in Race 1! - and then unsuccessfully tried to take Gene out in Race 2. You can find out what happened by reading Gene's report below - suffice to say if ever plan to race in Korea with a certain Mr. Hwang Jin Woo in the race - make sure you have a strong car!

Gene's report below from Round 6 at Everland Speedway:QualifyingTeam Modena SGLC driver Gene Lee qualifies in 2nd place only 0.220 seconds off the Lexus GT1 spec car. This was a commendable effort considering there was 70kgs of success ballast loaded onto the car.  The team have found considerable time since earlier in the year when the laptimes were the same, but without any success ballast.Race 1Team Modena SGLC driver Gene Lee finished in 2nd place.

All in all, the Team Modena SGLC mechanics did another fantastic job to prepare a fast and reliable car.  The weather conditions were cool, which meant it took a few extra laps to get heat into the tyres - tyre warmers are illegal.  The Hankook runners were on softer compounds which meant they were able to pull out a lead in the early stage of the race.  However, as the Michelins heated up - and with their superb endurance - the Team Modena BMW was hot on the heels of the leader. If there were a few more laps, the BMW would have definitely overtaken the leader for another victory.

The Lexus GT1 caused a huge accident on the opening lap causing a red flag - he took out his teammate!  After the restart, the Team Modena BMW was hot on the heels of the Lexus GT1 car until the mandatory pitstop window opened.  The Lexus pulled in first for fresh tyres while the BMW stayed out for another lap to utilize the open track.  The BMW pitted two laps later than GT1 car and the mechanics did another excellent job - changing all four tyres -  to get the BMW out in front of the Lexus GT1 car.  However, going into turn 2, the GT1 car dived on the inside - where there was no room - banged the rear wheel of the BMW  with his front causing the BMW to run wide and then banged the front side of the BMW again.  The Lexus GT1 driver was allotted no penalty despite his continued swerving and blocking attempts throughout the race.  By the end of the race, only 0.1seconds separated the two cars at the finish line.

*For the dangerous driving actions of the Lexus GT1 driver Mr. Hwang Jin Woo (Who was also banned from two races this year and currently on probation from KARA for causing the accident earlier in the year that almost wrote of the Team Modena BMW), the Promoter - KGTCR decided to take actions into their own hands (since the governing body KARA did not appear to plan to act) and disqualified Mr. Hwang from both races and further discipline him by banning him from participating in the final two rounds.  Furthermore, since he is a repeat offender, they are reviewing the case to decide if they will ban him for one year from racing in the series.
