Bateman battles hard at wet Brands Hatch

Ok - we have not finished Charles' site yet - but will try and have it ready for next round - famous last words!

PR below:

In monsoon conditions at Brands Hatch Porsche Carrera Cup GB driver Charles Bateman, contender in the Pro class, failed to finish the first race but finished a well deserved fifth in Race Two.

In Race One Charles held on to his starting position of 6th. For the early part of the 16 lap race, Charles battled hard with a number of drivers to maintain his position but went wide on lap 6, falling to 7th. Pushing too hard in treacherous conditions, Charles then went off at Druids one lap later and was unable to rejoin the race.

The Pilgrim Foodservice and Henderson Insurance supported driver got away better in Race Two with Charles moving up to 4th by the end of the first lap. On the penultimate lap Bateman was lying in 5th and working hard to reclaim 4th when he attempted to make a pass but went wide at Surtees. Having established a considerable gap to the field behind, he was able to rejoin the track back in 5th where he finished.

Pleased to have secured more Championship points, Charles said, “A couple of tough races today but overall I’m happy. I got a decent start to the first race and the car was feeling good but visibility was terrible with all of the spray. I basically out-braked myself and became beached on the gravel and that was that.

“Race Two was a lot more exciting. I initially went into 4th at the start but I couldn’t hold back Tom Bradshaw, he was so fast today. Towards the end of the race  I could see that I was catching the driver in front and so pushed a bit harder and ended up going wide. Other than that it was a good race, the car is feeling great. We still need to work on our qualifying performance to get us further up the grid, and then hopefully we should get ourselves on to the podium.”Rounds 7 & 8 of the Porsche Carrera Cup will be at Oulton Park in Cheshire on 6th June with live TV coverage on ITV4.
